May. 30th, 2009 10:57 amI'm on a Disney/Pixar high from UP, and
a_white_rain's Top Ten Disney songs post. So I googled.
Here's a handy reference for upcoming movies.
1)The Princess and the Frog: I am cautiously optimistic, but most of the early pics/trailers just don't hit all the right buttons for me. Also, I am not sure Disney is capable of being racially sensitive (see: Pocahontas). I will probably wait until I hear what other's think before I go to this one.
2)Toy Story 3: Ok. Shocker here. I did not love Toy Story, although Toy Story 2 was better. It was techically brilliant and I see why people love it, but like I said, was not a movie that spoke to me. So no real interest in this one.
3)Rapunzel: Somehow I missed the fact that this was a CGI movie as I thought Princess and the Frog was signalling a return to hand drawn animation. A CGI Disney movie without Pixar is not generally a good movie. I like most of the concept art, but the CGI pic of Skipper!Barbie!Rapunzel with the teeny waist is off putting. On the plus side the concept sketches of the prince show a colorful personality.
4) Newt: Premise is a little odd, but it's Pixar. I'll go see it.
5) The Bear and the Bow: HOLY MOLY GUYS. WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THAT PIXAR WAS GOING TO DO A FAIRY TALE. I AM SO THERE. I AM THERE AT THE MIDNIGHT SHOWING.
ARCHER!PRINCESS IN SCOTLAND.
6) Cars 2: I'm not sure why THIS movie in particular is getting a sequel. Do kids really love it? Because although it is good, it's generally accepted that this is the weakest of the Pixar movies. Will probably watch it on tv but that's about it.
7) King of the Elves: Again Disney CGI without Pixar. Also without nostaglic bonus of being a fairy tale. Skip.
